About The Big Word
The Big Word is a free daily word puzzle built around one simple, slightly audacious question: what if the word were big? Five-letter daily puzzles taught the world a shared morning ritual. We wanted the same ritual with higher stakes — a single 10-letter word each day, eight chances to find it, and a twist that makes the hunt fair: probe words. Since almost nobody can rattle off ten-letter words on demand, you're free to guess smaller words (five letters and up) to scout for letters before committing to a big swing. Little words hunting the big word — that's the whole game.
The Big Word was designed and built in the summer of 2026 by Hendrick Design, LLC, an independent studio. It began as a conversation about why daily puzzles feel so good — the shared word, the streak, the one-a-day scarcity — and became an obsession with making a bigger version feel fairer rather than merely harder. The probe mechanic, the honest handling of duplicate letters, and the once-a-day rhythm all came out of playtesting with friends and family who were not shy with their opinions.
What it costs
Nothing. The Big Word is free to play, supported by a short sponsored message before the daily puzzle and optional ads for bonus words. There are no accounts to create and no personal information to hand over — your streak and statistics live on your own device.
The word list
Daily answers are drawn from a hand-curated list of common, satisfying 10-letter English words — the kind you know when you see, even if you couldn't summon them cold. Guesses are validated against a large tournament-style word list, supplemented with everyday calendar words. No obscure dictionary dust; missing a word should always feel like a near-miss, never a trick.
